We are excited to announce the 2012 launch of derekskalko.com, which is devoted entirely to the  growing imaging role of Derek as a photographer builidng an international client roster from behind the lens in addition to 1 Friday. Between a continued commitment to his Hasselblad film cameras and hand producing all initial imaging via traditional silver gelatin and lithprinting processes, Derek has developed a visually rich and imperfect style more unique in our modern world where throwaway and pixels tend to dominate the majority of images produced. Working predominantly in a hand held fashion and using whatever light is available, his images seem to tell a far more complicated story.  “I’ve always loved the idea of a snapshot aesthetic, and the humanness that tends to read through within the images produced.  For myself, I embrace the grains and variations that tend to develop within my images as a direct response to my other role in the world of buildings, where so much is driven by precision and exactness all of the time.  The camera allows a temporary escape from this more rigid reality, and I tend to favor the inherent variations that can occur when every aspect of the process is produced by my own hands.”
